If you've been following my blog at all, you may know that I do answer interior design related questions in the comments of my blogposts. I might miss a few, sometimes I don't catch the notifications or they get overlooked a bit.
Mostly though, these days, I try to answer.
However, when I get emailed those questions for a separate, singular and private answer, here's my response....
"I have a quick Q&A service that your email falls into.
If you'd rather get a free answer to your question, then please put a question in the comments on a blogpost of mine with a similar topic and upload images so that I can answer publicly.
Here are a few to pick from."
You see, there are several reasons why I take this approach.
#1 - I sell my advice.
Even though I write a blog with all kinds of tips and advice and it looks like I answer questions here, no holding back, I do sell personalized advice on projects to homeowners.
That's my business. I do this for a living.
So, it's not really fair to give it out for free to someone who just randomly emails me some specific questions when I have others that are willing to pay.
I want to bend over backwards for the clients that pay me for my advice and service. And while I love to talk design.......well, you know. :-)
You see, it all takes so much time, when you add it up. Because if you're asking me a question here or in an email, then chances are I'm getting a lot more just like yours.
That's why an email with a design related question from someone that is not a client or has not purchased the service is not something I can spend a lot of time on.
Unless you ask a question this way....
.........in the comments section of a blogpost, like these in this post about how to run your wood flooring or this post about where to end your backsplash.
You can even upload images to show me what you are talking about.
Why? It's for SEO reasons for my blog.
The more comments and questions I get, the more activity on my blog, the more Google likes it and will serve up my blogpost as an authority on the topic that people are googling.
So, for that reason (and because I love talking about design with my readers and I am going for a win/win situation here), I am happy to answer questions, as time permits, on my blog.
It also helps show I know what I'm talking about, to my readers.
After all, that is my main goal for writing this blog, so that I can prove to my clients, potential clients, and readers, that I know what I'm doing here and they can trust me.
So, if you have a question and you email me, please don't take it personally that I won't email you back with a personalized solution to your design dilemma.
If I'm going to share some of my experience and expertise by commenting on a personal design dilemma, then I would like for you to help me shine on my blog by putting your question in the comments or purchasing the Designed in a Click service.
Hope you all understand! :-)
Here are a few posts about my designed in a click sessions
I’ve started having Q&A sessions on Instagram, one weekend per quarter. They are really popular! You have to follow me on Instagram to be able to ask a question. Visit my account or this blog often to see when the next session will be.
I’m sharing another Designed in a Click Q and A done recently on one of my most popular topics, kitchen backsplash design and selection!
