One of these days I’m going to do a full guide to Round Top, but even after going many times, I still don’t feel I have it all down.
Dealers move around too, so really, you have to just go explore and see what you like.
I was soooo happy to have cooler weather and no rain! The heat and sun can be really intense. I think the fall is hotter generally, so I try to find cool days, during the week, to go in the spring. It’s always crowded on the weekends.
Here’s the calendar of events, take a look if you want to get out there soon.
One thing you have to realize is that there are different experiences and facilities at every location, that’s what makes it fun.
There is a definite high/low vibe.
Some locations have a lot of low end, kind of flea market stuff, and others have higher-end, very reputable dealers. There are even vendors with new furnishings that show here, as well as at High Point Market and other regional design shows.
Most dealers come from all over the country and the area explodes with people during the fall and spring markets.
Here’s what I found this past week.
The Arbors
I try to get to The Arbors first, it is very designer oriented and has higher end vendors. There’s also more artists and jewelry, rugs, some clothing too (you see a lot of linen at Round Top). They have the white tents on the east side of the main road.
Market Hill
Market Hill is right across the street from The Arbors and is anchored by Paul Michael. Some of the shops are air conditioned and there is a breezy barn to walk through filled with antiques, vintage, and reclaimed wood pieces.
They put out a beautiful glossy magazine a few weeks before and send in the mail, to entice you to come. There are some higher end, beautiful European antiques from reputable dealers here. Nice bathrooms too, not portable potties!
The Paul Michael Collection has new decorative items, with many furnishings made from reclaimed architectural products. Their faux organics are really life-like. Lots of cool containers and tabletop type decor are also displayed.
This vintage furnishings dealer, The Renner Project, is from Austin, showing at Market Hill, and had some great finds. I loved that patina on the hunter green leather chair and these pillows were so full and luxurious, with a rustic look.
The Compound
On down the road is The Compound, a really pleasant shopping experience with pretty grounds. These are upscale dealers as well, all very approachable and friendly. European rustic antiques, a rug dealer, some art, and vintage furnishings.
These items below were from Eneby Home. They had lots of amazing vintage leather.
I feel like I stepped back into my early designer years, seeing their furniture.
Yes, I’m vintage too. ;-)
Orange toned wood and caramel leather are hot! Loving the avocado green leather too.
Northgate
The northern fields of Warrenton are where I’ve found a few vendors that I love to visit.
There are two rug dealers, a dealer who brings lots of Americana type items, flags, etc., and then my fave European dealer in the back corner, by the parking lot. I always grab a few items for my styling closet there, this time I saw soapstone containers, perfect for a little maidenhair fern. :-)
They have the paper mache bowls, marble fruit and platters, lots of doors and lighting. Some of their products are new too, but all have a European flair.
Being in Northgate, where the rent is no doubt cheaper, the prices are a little less, I found.
Isn’t this new curvy contemporary sofa fun? Curves are trending, as per my last visit to Highpoint Market.
Blue Hills
There’s a friendly vibe here at Blue Hills, with antiques, some new products, rugs, a silver dealer, etc. It’s easy to park and walk through. There’s an art dealer showing there, Maps and Art, who shows at Highpoint too. He has lots of nice original pieces.
Rugs
I found a few rugs from a dealer from Florida that I’ve purchased from before. He is just south of Arbor Antiques and Market Hill, just a tent in front of a house on the side of the road.
He has lots of “Rugs” signs out front. “Djem”, who has kilims and other rugs too, is next door. You’ll see that sign out front.
I found these. Email me if you’re interested. I picked up a few. Perfect for entry halls.
My Final Tips For Round Top Shopping
Take cash, a sunhat, sunscreen, wear very comfortable walking shoes, and you’ll be good to go.
My advice, if you really, really, love it, buy it right then. It likely won’t be there if you go back. (Yes, that happened to me this past week.)
If you are on the fence, don’t buy it right off. Go back after you’ve thought about it and seen more. I almost made an impulse buy that I was glad I didn’t, almost the minute I walked away.
So, that’s what I hit this week!
If you went, where did you go? Where do you like to shop at Round Top?
