I know you are all getting ready for Christmas and holiday time with family so I’m going to make this one short and sweet. :-)
This was a makeover done in the wine bar area of this new home. I shared the dining room and living room earlier this month.
Overall this home had space, light and overall, a great plan, it just lacked some upgraded materials and in some places things just looked a little ordinary.
Such was the case with this wine bar.
The homeowner did not like the dark wood cabinets and really didn’t need quite that much cabinet storage, as there were lots of cabinets in the kitchen and even the large pantry nearby.
What I also didn’t like was how the scale of the cabinetry didn’t really enhance the volume of space.
I felt we could celebrate the ceiling height here and add a little sparkle too. You know, make things look a little more grand, like we did in the living room.
First thing we did was remove the dark wood upper cabinet and splash.
Feels more light and open already, right?
The construction part of this job was on a fast track, so we didn’t even do our usual CAD drawings, detailing what was to happen here. I just sketched it up!
At least it wasn’t on the back of a napkin!
I wanted to add some antique mirror here to reflect light and add sparkle, relocate the pendant lights and bring in some brass……basically just open up the space and make it more special.
We kept the base cabinetry and existing countertop, painting the cabinets. We also redid the upper wine rack on the back wall to add some lightness and reflection there. We took them up to the underside of the furr down here for the cabinetry, because those shorter cabinets were really not doing that space any favors.
Check out the finished product below. :-) The blue artwork repeats the colors of the dining room.
Happy Holidays to all of you. I’m so grateful you follow my blog.
