This bathroom has held up well over the years, being the second of two bathrooms in this Florida home. It was the bath for two boys growing up here and now that they are off to college, it is time for an update.
The cabinets, tub, flooring, etc., all can be changed. This is the bathroom that all the visitors here use too, as a powder room, so a fresh look will be fun!

Basically, we are keeping the same layout and still need a tub as it is the only one in the house.
We can keep the walled enclosure there, although I’d take the opening up to the ceiling over the tub.
This Kohler Underscore tub has a simple look so we can top it with some fabulous tile. :-)
How about a little color!
The homeowner does like green, so green it is. And for this room, the bolder, the better.
I love the color, variation, gloss and shape of this tile from Daltile.
I would stack this vertically to the ceiling in this enclosure.
I’d then like to see the color repeated elsewhere in the room, the vanity cabinet seems a good choice.
I would do one long vanity, without the kneehole and the tall cabinet, and I would consider going with two sinks in this longer vanity.
I love the style of this cabinet with legs. While this one is likely not long enough for this space, a local carpenter or cabinet shop can make one and then it can be painted to match the tile.
For the flooring, I’d go with this sandy wood look hex tile. This room needs some warmth and I love that you would see it under the vanity with its legs. This is a 2 1/2” hex, a very slip resistant and durable porcelain tile. It’s from Arizona Tile, Aquea, Silva.
I think we should do a honed or leather finish black granite of some kind. We only need a portion of a slab and that material is somewhat more available these days as leftover pieces, as it is a more commonly used material.
That would dictate some black accents, like a touch in the lighting and mirror.
I really like a matte brass look for the plumbing fixtures. These Purist fixtures from Kohler are always a winner.
Since we need a lot of light at the vanity, we are going for two vanity lights in a two tone look.
This mirror adds interest and texture as well as combining black with a neutral tone.
Add some fun cabinet pulls in brass and black.
Lastly, we need a shower curtain. This green one from West Elm will work.
I designed this bathroom so that it would be interesting with or without dressing the walls with wallpaper. There’s lots to pick from if a pattern on the walls is desired, that’s for sure.
I rather like repeating the color of the floor and the texture of the mirror here on the walls. I think I’d paint instead. Sherwin Williams Believable Buff might be just the warmth this bathroom needs.
Here it is all put together.
This bathroom feels special enough for a powder room and serves its purpose for multiple house guests too.
