I am back from Dwell on Design in California, where I did home tours galore that I'm excited to share with all of you!

First of all, let me say a big thank you to my clients who have been oh-so-patient with me. While I'm only an email away, I am so distracted when on a golden tour like this with all these good friends and designers on the tour and the Modenus team as lead. I trust my right arm, Jitka, back in the office, to keep up and help me stay up to date.

There is NO TOUR like a MODENUS BLOGTOUR, let me tell you. And this one was certainly a highlight for me in my career. I love California and LA (my daughter lives there) and while I have only visited a handful of times, this tour gave me a much closer look into the LA lifestyle and design scene.

I am so grateful to Dwell on Design for sponsoring this trip. I am sure they know what a stellar team of designers/bloggers/social media design types they had in force. :-) I also hope they get the love they deserve, as this grouping of events on a beautiful weekend in April, was such sheer pleasure to attend and be a part of. I feel soooo incredibly lucky. :-)

I have hit the ground running with projects, so I wanted to simply share a peek at one of the cool houses we toured on Saturday in the Hollywood Hills, during the home tour event of Dwell on Design. 

Architect: Assembledge+ 

My heart is always moved by a black house. Most especially, black combined with the warmth of wood. 

Below is the open dining room / living room off the main entry.

There were such cool windows that create a lovely geometry and Mondrian effect in the space. I love how often California architects incorporate skylights into their designs. 

The kitchen is right there in the same open space. Love the windows in this house and all the butt-joint glass. The warmth of the rift cut oak gives this house a natural touch.

In love with the flush countertop edge detail.... no overhang! That takes precision in construction and cabinetry. 

Talk about details. The simpler the detail, the more difficult to achieve. 

This house had no baseboards and no door or window trim for a seamless indoor/outdoor experience.

Beautiful natural materials gave the home warmth and texture while the clean lines incorporated within, kept the space expansive with an open feel.

And oh.....that back yard. Only in California, right? 

Love the details of the rain chain. :-)

This master bath was in the treetops. Only one privacy panel of etched glass, so what does that tell you? No one has a view into this space.

Shop for succulents and containers!

All of us on the tour commented about the beautiful succulents and containers that were used in all the houses we visited. I've always loved succulents in our hot climate here in Texas, and use them in my back garden. I've assembled a few similar styled containers and plants for some online shopping here for you, below.
