Are you looking to refresh your backyard oasis this summer with some new planters or plants?
I’m back from my first trip out to the west coast in awhile and still on a high with all the California style inspiration I soaked in. I’ve got some beautiful ideas for planters and containers as well as some interesting outdoor furnishings inspired by the looks I saw, to share with you today.

We had a late lunch one day on the rooftop deck at Elephante Beach House in Santa Monica. I loved the rustic, casual vibe here. Smooth plaster (or stucco) walls, terracotta urns, handwoven baskets, woven screens, wicker chairs and all the natural wood created the most relaxing atmosphere.
Of course, perfect weather helps too! :-) And plants! Lots of plants.
I love, love, love this look. It felt like a mini-vacation within a vacation to me. The plaster walls (or these are probably smooth stucco) were gorgeous.
I’ve never been that fond of snake plants, but I do love the verticality they bring to a cluster of plants. I’m already ordering my white gravel/pebbles for the tops of all my houseplants now. Perfect topper material for succulents.
These really tall, narrow pots seem to be the trend in containers these days.
Even in the most dense commercial spot, an oasis is created with container gardens. These tall rectangular containers build a short wall for privacy.
I can’t wait to see my new succulents that I had to replace after our big freeze this year, grow a bit. They never looked quite as full and grand as any of these.
I’ve located some online sources for some similar containers. You can check them out below. I found some textural screens and caning by the foot too, if you want to make your own. Remember to verify the dimensions of all your purchases online. :-)
