As a designer, I’m always ecstatic when I have a client who is game for some bold wallpaper, but typically in a bedroom, people love a more relaxing, soothing vibe for sleep.
Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite colors for bedrooms, just in case you are thinking about tackling one more project before the end of all this isolation period.
I’m sort of envisioning the roaring 20’s ahead, with all kinds of travel, parties, packed restaurants and hotels (hopefully many will still be there!), when things open back up. I don’t know about you, but I’ve already booked a flight to LA for a wedding in May, in hopes that we’ll be sprung from our homes!
Won’t it be nice to come back home to a place where you’ve used this time to create your ideal haven or nest? A space that you’ve put some thought into, that you’ve created to work beautifully for you and your family, that you don’t have to deal with going forward because it is done?
How about creating that perfect sanctuary in your bedroom?
There’s a lot you can do with wall color.
My son and his wife are millennials, and they have had bedroom furniture that they’ve used from their childhood bedrooms, just hand-me-downs, for years. I wanted to help them make some selections and get these investment pieces down now, so they can have useful storage and a relaxing, calm room to come home to at night.
After all, I’ve had my bedroom furniture for over 30 years (time for some new nightstands for me), so I know this will likely not be replaced any time soon.
She likes light furniture, not dark wood, and they need lots of storage for clothing as their closet is smallish.
They are getting nightstands, a dresser and a chest. The finishes are all light and they all work together well, without being matchy-matchy. They will also look great with any multitude of paint colors on the walls, but especially the blue-green-gray tones.
Favorite Bedroom Paint Colors
I have some of my fave colors to share with you today that would make a beautiful color scheme for any bedroom.
Benjamin Moore Pewter
If you want to go gray, but more on the blue side, try Benjamin Moore Pewter. It was just the right cool tone for this bedroom, creating just enough contrast between both light and dark finishes. It feels like a color, while still being overall neutral.
Sherwin Williams Meditative
This next color, Sherwin Williams Meditative, turned out really pretty in this bedroom. Blues and greens are always top choices for me for bedroom walls, as they have a restful ambience.
Benjamin Moore Bali
I used Benjamin Moore Bali in my guest bedroom upstairs. I’ve had sooo many people comment about this wall color. When I painted it, I didn’t have any fabrics or anything else selected and I ended up using some leftovers I got deals on to fill in the room.
Benjamin Moore Puritan Gray
This color can look more gray in some light, more blue or even green in another. It is beautiful shade no matter what though, and I’m using it in a living room now too. Benjamin Moore Puritan Gray can supply just the right amount of subtle color, like it did in the primary bedroom on one of my projects.
Sherwin Williams Sea Salt
This is a color I’ve used again and again, Sherwin Williams Sea Salt. Here it is a butler’s pantry I did in a showhouse over 10 years ago. This was a hand painted mural, but the base coat of the walls and ceiling, and the cabinet color, was SW Sea Salt.
