I'm excited to share some end result pics here with you today of a local design consultation I did back last fall.

This homeowner had just moved into their home and needed some tips and pointers for various rooms. She took my advice to heart and their partial kitchen redo turned out so nicely!

Are there other things she'd like to do here? Of course....don't we all see more we can upgrade in our kitchens?

However, the change she made here gave her a big bang for her buck and let her spend in other areas of her home that needed some attention.

So, here were the before images of her kitchen.

BEFORE - This homeowner wanted to reduce the look of the spotty granite in her kitchen without redoing everything.

I wrote about her consultation in this post, and shared what I had advised.

I know that in many of the kitchen remodels I'm called in on for consulting, the homeowners want to step the process and maybe not do everything all at once.

In that case, I typically look for where the biggest impact can be made in the space to get them a noticeable improvement right away.

This homeowner didn't like all the spotty granite and wanted to diminish that look in her kitchen. I advised her to do a new backplash since the vertical surfaces in a kitchen often tend to have the biggest impact.

She had a few tile selections on hand and I thought that the simple white beveled subway would be best. I liked that the splash would not be so busy with this product and that the white would continue the look of the upper cabinets down to the countertop.

Her cabinets were a little short looking on the wall and having the backsplash match the cabinetry would make those feel taller and give more height to the kitchen.

I also suggested she redo that kitchen island countertop, since the "wings" on the corners were such a random feature and that spotty granite dominated the middle of the room.

I suggested a pretty veined white marble and that is just what she found. It really adds some quality and updates this kitchen immensely.

She sent me a pic of the slab they found.

And now, tell me, do you really notice that spotty granite so much anymore? No.

Can she get by with this look for a few years and then come back and redo the perimeter counters a later date just fine? Yes. :-)

I think she made a big improvement to her kitchen. It feels lighter, brighter and more up to date even with just those few elements changed (and night-time photos to boot!).
