Mosaic tile floors provide pattern and texture and their small mosaics remind you of the bathrooms of yesterday.
Earlier this week I shared a portion of my design plan for a home that uses vintage tile floors in the bathroom. This new construction home is designed to resemble an American foursquare, a style that was popular in the early 1900s. And one of my favorite features is its floor, as it's dressed with small mosaic tile that perfectly compliments the architecture of the home.
One of the best advantages of mosaic tile floors in the bathroom is slip resistance. Because of the grout and the small size, they have more traction than a large tile does. That really helps when you are dripping wet coming out of the shower or tub!
If you are really wanting to do a polished tile of some kind on the floor, use a mosaic pattern to help with slip resistance.
They also help with the slope to a center drain. You don’t have to cut the tile for a good slope, they mold well as they are, to the slant of the floor.
I’ve got more mosaic tile floors below in some beautiful bathrooms I’ve worked on in the past, along with a few I’ve toured. ;-)
