Thermador has truly outdone themselves with their newest induction cooktop. Really, I couldn’t be more impressed.
It’s name: The “Freedom Induction Cooktop”. I love it.
It wasn’t until I saw this unit in action that I became interested in induction cooking. The top features a large, 36” cooking element, so the entire cooktop can be used as a burner. You can even put a large, rectangular shaped grill pan on it and it will evenly heat its entire surface! Amazing, huh!
This unit is self-mapping, which means it’s able to sense when and where a pan sits on the top and only heats that area. It senses when a pan has been moved. So, for instance, let’s say you’re cooking with a grill pan in the middle of the surface and you want to add a couple of pots. The Freedom Induction Cooktop will let you move the grill pan to one side, put two pots on the other side, and the unit will instantly heat those areas. That’s right… Because it has instant on and off functionality, there’s no waiting for the cooktop to heat up. I love it!
Zach Elkin, Director of Brand Marketing for Thermador, showed us another example of this unit’s brilliance describing how to cook bacon.
Because induction only heats pots and pans, you can actually touch the surface with your hand when it’s on and not burn yourself. So, here's his unique bacon cooking method.
First, you can lay a paper towel upon the cooktop...
Then a layer of bacon on top of the paper towel...
Then a paper towel on top of the bacon...
Finally, a grill pan on top of it all.
And guess what happens...
The bacon cooks cleanly and evenly thanks to the heat being evenly dispersed. And all the grease stays in the paper towels!
Nice job on this one, Thermador.
Not only am I now a fan of induction cooking, but I'm in love with your Freedom Induction Cooktop. ;-)
