The wife of one of the contractors I use called me the other day.
Although I’ve never met her face to face, we've spoken on the phone a lot throughout the past five years or so. She takes the calls at their business and runs the office.
She needed some help with the paint colors on the exterior of her house and was hoping I could give her some suggestions. She needed some quick advice, but I'm pretty stacked with projects right now. Had I had taken the time to have a consultation with her at her house, the trip would’ve really cut into my workday.
But I really wanted to help her! I had to figure out a way to make this happen. So, after a little brainstorming, I decided to try to help her virtually. And I'm happy to say it was a win/win.
Before I could give her any advice, I needed her to send me some pictures of the exterior of her house. Here's what she sent:
The moment I saw those photos in my inbox I knew I could do this remotely. So, with a grin on my face, the type of grin you get when you feel like you've just had a major epiphany, I began to work...
With that black in the brick color, those shutters would be great black - maybe Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black.
Because the brick is so busy and colorful, I didn’t think going with any color on the painted parts of the house would be a good idea, so I surfed over to Houzz.com, clicked on the filters, "Exteriors" and "Traditional," and began looking for images that exemplified what I thought they should do. What I found were lots of house exteriors with black shutters and white trim.
Because their brick was so warm colored, I thought they should go with a creamy white, like Sherwin Williams Alabaster. And, as it turns out, it was just what she’d been thinking all along. Click here to see what I found.
All done! I emailed her my ideabook of recommendations, and done. ... Happy friend :-)
