Are stainless steel appliances on the outs?
One of the booths I really wanted to check out this year was GE Cafe. I have seen their white appliances online and wanted to see them in person.
Well, so did everyone else because their booth was packed. And there are lots of photos of it out on social media to prove it.
These appliances have some of the beautiful pro style details that higher end appliances have, but are more economical and geared for a mid-range level consumer.
This beautiful display was the perfect envelope for the white color option.

That refrigerator above has a Keurig coffee maker in the front door. Not something I would do, I think it looks bulky and kind of cheap, but without it, the pro style handles and overall detailing of that fridge gives it a very upgraded look.
Check out the light panel in the back that was new this year.

Many booths had appliances with color. While I’ve always seen bold ranges with color at KBIS, this year there seemed to be more.
Smeg has always done color in a bold way. What do you think of this bright yellow?

I loved this hood from Best by Broan. You can do a colorful glass panel around the bottom edge, there are several other bright colors to choose from. I can see it either blending in with a backsplash or standing out as a real design feature.
Miele had a wall of white appliances displayed. This is their Pureline Brilliant White.
Makes you wonder if stainless steel finishes will be waning a bit in the years to come, doesn’t it?
I think it is really more about having options.
I believe that vendors are wanting to produce more options out there for people to feel like they have something special. It’s like the difference of getting a generic cup of coffee at a coffee shop vs. a skinny vanilla latte with an extra pump of frap roast at a Starbucks.
And well, you know how the general public likes their customized coffees. ;-)
New appliance Innovation at KBIS
I saw another unique new appliance that I’m really interested in.
You know how we are becoming more aware of all the pesticides used on our fruits and vegetables that although deemed “safe” still give you the creeps.
This appliance by Fotile, which is not yet offered or made for the US market, sounds really promising. It is designed to remove up to 90% of all pesticides, waxes, and other coatings after a cleansing with an ultrasound and high turbulence purification.
How much easier would that be, knowing for sure when you cleaned your fruit, that you were getting those films and residue off. Grapes? Tomatoes? Apples? I would love that.
Although, I think they need a countertop version. As for now, it is integrated into their sink / dishwasher unit.

Handy sink / appliance for small space living
They also had a handy sink dishwasher in that same integrated water/appliance which would be great for small space living and maybe people who live alone. It’s gives you the cleanliness a dishwasher can offer without filling the whole beast and doing a long clean up.
I think this unit would be great for seniors in independent living settings. They don’t often cook, that’s the reason they’re there many times, to get regular decent meals prepared by someone else and to eat with others.
However, if you’ve ever seen an apartment or unit in one of these residential living places for senior adults, their kitchens are basically just appliances with an upper cabinet. (I’ve seen a lot of these in the last year, so I know what I’m talking about!)
They have a regular range, a standard sink, a dishwasher, and usually a typical size fridge. There’s usually a microwave/hood over the range.
In a kitchen that is a small box, the appliances take up a lot of space.
Of course, it would have to be cost effective and very simple to use to go into a unit like this, but maybe someday…….it’s so much more practical.
You won’t want to design new bathroom cabinets without seeing these cool products I have featured for you today.
