You can't just jam the end of the sofa right up against the wall even if you have no room. You need a little space there. You don't want your room to look crowded.
Here's what to do in order to gain that idea of roominess you're looking for. Position one of these bright beauties between the arm of your sofa and wall:
A floor lamp.
It will create the illusion that there’s more space there than meets the eye.
It will give some height and illumination and provide separation.
You'll get the sense that there just might be a table there after all.
If you do one on each side, it will provide some symmetry and extends the overall length of the sofa, visually. It adds prominence and purpose.

Chunky floor lamp adds corner interest in a showroom at Highpoint Market.
While there is room for round tables on each end of the sofa here, below, the floor lamps add delineation and tuck back into the corner so nicely here. Floor lamps always leave more space for items on end tables too.
