I’m excited to share yet another project with you today!
This one: a lovely master bedroom; one that went from dated and drab to light, clean, and uplifting!
This homeowner wanted her bedroom to feel like a boutique hotel. She wanted clean lines, a more transitional feel, and a complete look that felt restful and calm.
Here's the before:
Here's what we did:
My client was very specific about how she wanted a screen, or a paneled look, for her headboard. All furnishings would be needed to complete the room.
Most of her house is full of warm tones: warm wood floors; warm colored stone work, warm paint colors; and warm upholstery. So, to give the rest of her house a break from all that warmth, we went with a cooler palette that included blues and greens (her favorites). They worked perfectly for creating a calm, restful retreat vibe. As soon as you walk in the room, body and mind enter a state of zen.

The Customized Bed
Her bed was custom made to become the room’s main feature. The large, upholstered panels with fretwork patterned fabric create that screened-effect she wanted. And, because it was upholstered, the everything looked soft and inviting.
To create that boutique hotel look she wanted, neutral custom bedding, topped with pretty patterned pillows that incorporated our color scheme was used.
The Nightstands
Stained wood nightstands anchor the bed and add some sophistication. Their sleek lines cast a more contemporary look to the space, which was a vibe she definitely wanted.
The Mirrors
I love doing mirrors behind lamps on nightstands; I love how they balance a bedroom—especially ones that have such a grand headboard. And, in this case, the mirrors do a brilliant job of reflecting the light coming in from the windows overlooking the outside garden. Each of them, on either side of the bed, feel like pretty portals to the outdoors.
The Lamps
And those bulbous, soft white lamps: they mimic the plump pillows and add softness and comfort at the bed.
The Bench
The bench repeats the fabric from the headboard, and I love the wood X-base. It gives just the right amount of detail and distinction in contrast to all of the light softness in the field of creamy color and soft pattern.
Oh, and, as a sidenote... Do you see that combination of patterns at the foot of the bed—the organic, swirly pattern of the carpet, the fretwork geometric of the bench, and then the linear striped effect of the coverlet? To answer your question: Yes—that was purposeful. They all beautifully work together in a subtle, sophisticated way to add a layered look to this clean lined space.
The Windows, Table, and Chair
At the windows, we added a lovely, easily-upholstered chair and tiny table, making sure to not obstruct the view to the garden. Window treatments featuring light, reeded shades, as well as decorative panels in a soft, contemporary pattern, reinforced our desired look.
The Dresser, Art, and Accessories
The long wall opposite the windows was perfect for a large dresser. It anchored that side of the room with soft, contemporary lines. And that curve at the front: it’s such a nice detail.
Beautiful artwork, lamps, and accessories were used to complete that side of the room, each of which continued to manifest that boutique hotel look she so desired.
I'm sorry, but I can't hold back my true feelings about how this bedroom turned out...
I love it!
And I also love doing turnkey spaces, where we’re able to create a client’s dream vision, perfectly, right down to the very last detail!
And, of course, I hope YOU love it, too! ;-)
