If I were to do a monthly newsletter, this post today is how it would look.
I’m guessing you are thinking, “But you email me twice a week anyway!”
Yes, that’s right. And I opted out of a monthly or bi-monthly newsletter a few years ago, in favor of just sending my blogposts along automatically when I post.
The reason for that is I am posting less than I was back then anyway, and it keeps me from having to create a newsletter in a different format so that means less busy work for me!
Plus, I know when I posted a newsletter with links to my blogposts, some of those blogposts kinda got lost in the mix. :-/
Anyway…..this is kind of a mish-mash today of what fun things we’re up to in the studio and a little hint of what I’m working on for next year.
So, let’s start with a project that is getting into construction right now.

I know. But we had a good window with the contractor right now and he’s a tidy and thoughtful one. :-) Plus, this client is brave, has lived through some remodeling before and know what they are getting into.

You might also be thinking……”Hey, that is a nice kitchen. And I thought wood cabinets were coming back!”
Well, there is always reason to my madness AND this homeowner never liked the dark look of this space.
First of all…….I’m sure you design lovers out there can see the problem here.

Do you see the color combinations of all these major elements? The pinkish spotty granite paired with the warm toned olive green island, paired with the yellow-toned checkerboard backsplash?
The whole color combination of materials just didn’t work and the homeowner was tired of it.
Did I mention it was very dark? Oh, and brown and pink and yellow and tan and green?
AND that hood projects out so far and at just the wrong height for this homeowner that it literally caused eye damage.
So, time to remodel and update for a lighter, brighter space, using some updated material. And while we were at it…..a sleeker, more minimal hood with a curved front. :-)

We’re also taking those cabinets to the ceiling along with the backsplash, because you know I love doing that.
It immediately adds an uplifting feel to the space and creates a more spacious look.
Two tone kitchens do the same and will also enable us to reuse some of the base cabinets.
They started demo on the kitchen this week and the space already looks lighter, brighter, and more open!

UPDATE On A Past Project
Another update I just wanted to share with you is that this house/project I posted about recently, has sold!
The homeowner sent me an email, thanked me and shared this news. We remodeled to sell, after they had moved out and had some difficulty appealing to buyers in the area.
Now they can close this chapter of their lives and move on, unencumbered, into their new lifestyle in another state.
I never met this client face to face.
I was connected to them through their realtor, whom I had consulted with before on some projects. We had one phone call, the rest was done by email. They were already moved out so they trusted me to do the design, make finish selections, and then to get the contractor in to get it done for them.
I’m so happy it translated into a sold property for them!

The Last Bits And Bobs
I’m installing the last pieces in a job next week, a fun ottoman and some benches that were added in at the end of the design process.
That project has been one of my faves with great clients, and when the kitchen backsplash finally arrives and gets installed, in January, I will be having it photographed. It’s turning out beautifully!
I love how these new dining chairs that we did in a navy Crypton velvet brought some contrast and luxury to their existing rustic table. Such a nice mix!
This pic, below, is from the music room, right across from the dining room.
We did a striking navy wall color in there, BM Newportbury Blue.
Our custom white parson’s style console contrasts so nicely, as does the pretty mirror and accessories. Two of our new benches will slide right underneath here.
New Remodel Project on the Boards
Lastly, I’ve started work on a big remodel design in the Austin, TX area, and I’m heading there next week for a personal look at the house and to present the new kitchen I’ve designed for them.
This is the one to be remodeled. We’re going to take down that wall on the left and open it up to the adjacent living room.
